Having been first attracted by the shadows on trees she spotted in the grass, she spent months exploring a process that did not convey the selected subject as a 2-dimensional representation on canvas. The object becomes a representation of its own, and the canvas carries an interpretation by painting of the object. This is especially true in the case of a living thing or food item, for example, fruit or humans. Alexa Meade's distinctive style of painting which is very ephemeral in nature, is apparent. The only thing of her art to survive is the photo. Techniques of photography and painting are tightly coordinated, resulting in a flat two-dimensional space which achieves trompe-l'oeil. Certain elements of the picture like hair and eyes, reveal the three-dimensional dimension. Meade has also integrated her model paintings into the 3-dimensional space around the models. Interaction between them and the created environment is possible. Through this, Meade has removed the borders between photography, painting and performing.
